Civil initiative In the name of the Family: Letter to The xx band

Letter to The xx band regarding their song which is not used by the Civil initiative In the name of the Family.

 Demand for an apology

Members of The xx band,

on 27th of November 2013 you have made following statement on your Facebook page: “our music has been used without our permission in a promotional advert by the Croatian organization “U ime obitelji”.

The citizens initiative “In the name of the family”, which initiated the first constitutional referendum in Croatia, did not use any of your band’s music in any of its promotional adverts. All of our adverts are published on the official Youtube channel of the Initiative.

Since your Facebook statement has been published and spread by the media just a few days before the referendum, not only has it falsely defamed the Initiative, but it also mislead the Croatian voters in making an informed referendum decision.

Having in mind public ethics and the right of international public and Croatian voters to be truthfully informed, we kindly ask you to retract the statements you have made.

We hope for your prompt reaction or we will assume you have willingly harmed our reputation. We ask you to fully retract the above mentioned statements and publish an apology.

We also ask of all media that published the derogatory statement of The xx band as brought by Reuters, to publish a rebuttal.
Best regards,

Jelena Gazivoda, media relations
