The Citizens’ Initiative “In the Name of the Family” hereby wishes to turn the attention of the Croatian public to the campaign conducted by Europapress Holding (EPH) via its publications, against the first citizens’ referendum scheduled for 1 December 2013. The extremely negative views of the referendum, accompanied by constructions and attempts at defamation of certain persons from the citizens’ initiative have lately been the common denominator of all EPH group publications. Volunteers “In the Name of the Family”: 6306 observers at the referendum
The Citizens’ Initiative “In the Name of the Family” has registered with the State Electoral Commission 6306 observers who will observe the first national constitutional referendum on 1 December 2013, Anamarija Marković from the national coordination of the Citizens’ Initiative “In the Name of the Family” has reported. In 95% of the polling stations in the Republic of Croatia, the volunteers of the citizens’ initiative will monitor the number of voters who have come out to vote at the referendum and will participate in the counting of the ballots, observing whether the referendum is proceeding in line with the law. We would also like to thank the numerous volunteers who wanted to be observers, but whom, due to the very short deadline for registration, we have not managed to include among observers. The first referendum initiated by citizens at 1st December 2013
In Croatia, the youngest, 28th EU member, the Parliament has called the first referendum initiated by citizens for 1 December 2013. Voters will be able to express their view in the form of a referendum question: “Do you support introduction of a provision into the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia to the effect that marriage is a living union of a woman and a man?“.
The citizens’ initiative “In the Name of the Family” has sent a request to the Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) to be allowed to present its views in line with the Rules of Procedure of the Croatian Radiotelevision during the Referendum, of 19 April 2013. Croatian citizens – at least 710,000 want to have their say in referendum
The civil initiative „In the Name of the Family“ brings together individuals, families and civil society organisations committed to promotion of universal human values, as well as religious associations, communities and movements – all those who hold the view that marriage is a union between a man and a woman only.
On 12 to 26 May 2013, the Initiative had made it possible for the citizens of the Republic of Croatia to express their view on whether they think a referendum should be held to incorporate into the Constitution of the RoC a provision to the effect that marriage is a living union between one man and one woman, in the form of a referendum question: “Do you support introduction of a provision into the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia to the effect that marriage is a living union of a woman and a man?“.
